I cannot find a skill that seems to be the opposed skill to Sneaking (CG). Is there not something akin to Perception from D&D? While there is the Surprise mechanic, that doesn’t seem to cover the situation where a PC is actively searching for someone skulking about in the alley ahead of him or her. What is the best Skill for resolving this, or should an optional one be created?

There’s not a skill like alertness or perception, although there could be if you want to. But you may use Sagacity which is what we use and which is used in perception-like exemples throghouht the book.

SY is possible and used sometimes by me, but I find that in the bigger part of situations CG seems more appropriate. SY is about figuring out things in a somewhat academic, rational way, CG is more about instinct and cleverness and, well, cunning. It depends on the situation — for a largely unsuspecting opposition it will usually be SY, for an at least somewhat suspecting or distrustful opposition CG will often be more appropriate.

Good call on cunning, i think we’ve used in the beggining but for some reason we stuck with SY after a while.

I’ve been thinking of derived stats lately, just for kicks, and it occured to me to rename Aim (CG + SY) to perception and make it more useful to other things other than aiming, like reflex does. What do you think?

Sounds good to me. Awareness is the first name that comes to my mind for it.
