Where are your games set?
For those who are playing.
Ours is set in the default Xoth.
Mourn for us oppressed in fear
Chained and shackled we are bound
Freedom choked in dread we live
Since Tyrant was enthroned

Well, as you might know — ’cause I mentioned it in several other threads — my games is set in the world of Hârn. Not on the island itself but on the lythian mainland, right now in Emelrene.

I use Xoth, and I fill the blanks with bits and pieces from other worlds or things I create.

I have found Beasts and Barbarians to be a great addon to my Xoth.

I run my game in a mythical England during the War of the Roses (1453), aided by a guide called Dark Albion. Not exactly sword & sorcery, but the way I see it Blade is much more versatile than the creators give it credit for. The benefit of running a historical setting is that all the history and details are extremely fleshed out, and believable, since, you know, it actually happened. If you or the players want to know something about the world, just look it up.

In terms of the supernatural, I mostly use actual old English folklore, but still leaving some room for creative liberties. One of my players is a sorcerous cleric for the church, and the other players act as companions of a lower station.

Orbis Mundi looks especially interesting, I’ll have to pick it up at some point. Realism in a medieval setting is always tricky.

Hello all,

When I run my games of Blade, I have a session where I sit down with the group and do a world building session. One group game is themed after the Russian Bogatyrs with that flavour to the game. Another is an interesting combination of Greek theme with nomadic tribes to set the south of them with the obligatory ruined civilization which turned into a gypsy culture.

I have the players tell me little snippets of stories about places and probe at points I think are interesting. It makes for a very rich game world for the players to adventure in as they write most of the world and then as the GM I toss in little fantastical bits and dangers for them to explore.
